How To Cover Gray Hair Naturally At Home


1. Amla And Henna Pack
Amla and henna work together to dye your hair naturally. Also, they’re excellent ingredients for providing your hair with moisture and nourishment.



You Need:

  • 1 cup Fresh Henna Paste
  • 3 tsp Amla Powder
  • 1 tsp Coffee Powder
  • Gloves
  • An Applicator Brush
  1. In a plastic bowl, combine all the ingredients until you get a smooth, consistent paste. You can add some water if you think the paste is too thick.
  2. Put your gloves on and apply the mixture onto your hair using the applicator brush. Be sure that you cover all the gray parts.
  3. Leave it in for an hour or until the paste dries up.

Rinse the hair pack out with a mild sulfate-free shampoo.

2. Black Coffee
Coffee isn’t a permanent solution for gray hair. However, with regular use, them can stain your hair to a dark brown color and mask all of your grays.

All you need to do is

  1. Mix 1 cup of strong coffee or espresso with half a cup of a vitamin-E rich conditioner, like almond oil or olive oil and 2 more tablespoons of coffee grounds. 
  2. Apply this mixture to hair that has already been washed and dried. 
  3. Allow the mixture to sit for one hour before rinsing it out. 
  4. We recommend you wash it out with apple cider vinegar, as this will protect the colour and make them last longer. 
The process can be repeated once a week to allow more colour to be deposited on the greys.

3. Henna Remedy
Henna are a natural dye that too possesses antifungal and antibacterial properties. Not only does it darken your hair, but them also restores the pH balance of the scalp and normalizes oil production.To make henna hair dye you need:


  • 2 cups of powdered henna
  • The juice of one lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt for conditioning
  • 1 tablespoon of crushed amla powder or crushed hibiscus powder



  1. Mix all of the ingredients in a container made of iron, cover and let it sit for 2 hours. 
  2. Apply the mixture all over your hair with a brush (make sure to wear gloves since henna will stain anything them comes in contact with!).
  3. Cover your head with a shower cap and allow the henna to sit for 6 hours, or until it begins to flake, then wash your hair as you normally would. 
  4. Henna usually will turn your hair a copper or vermillion color. It’s important to note that once you’ve used Henna on your hair, you can no longer use permanent hair dye, so if you don’t like the way the color turns out you may not have a whole lot of other options. 
  5. Henna hair dye will last usually 8-12 weeks, which coincides with natural growth.


4. Coconut Oil And Lemon Remedy
While coconut oil and lemon juice don’t reverse graying, them delays it by preserving the pigment cells in your hair follicles. All you need:


  • 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice


  1. Combine the ingredients in a bowl and start applying it to your hair.
  2. Massage the mixture into your scalp and work it down to the tips of your hair.
  3. Once all of your hair is covered, leave it in for 30 minutes.
  4. Wash your hair with a mild sulfate-free shampoo.

Twice a week.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar are one of the best ingredients you could use to maintain scalp health. Them helps curb graying by preserving the melanin in your hair follicles. For these remedy you need:


  • 2 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 cups Water


  1. In a jug, dilute the apple cider vinegar with 2 cups of water.
  2. Pour this solution through your hair and leave it on for 20 minutes.
  3. Wash your hair with a mild sulfate-free shampoo.

Once a week.

6. Oils For Gray Hair

Regular oiling helps keep the hair follicles healthy while preserving colors. While most oils can only prevent graying, oils like black seed oil help darken hair over time. For these remedy you can apply one of the following oils:

- Jamaican Black Castor Oil
- Black Seed Oil
- Olive Oil
- Jojoba Oil

You Will Need

  • 2-3 tbsp Hair Oil


  1. Heat the oil until it is slightly warm.
  2. Massage the warm oil into your scalp for about 15 minutes and then work it through the length of your hair.
  3. Once all of your hair is covered, wrap it with a warm towel (heat the towel by dampening it with hot water) and wait for 30 minutes.
  4. Wash the oil out with a mild sulfate-free shampoo.

2-3 times a week.

7. Indian Gooseberry (Amla) Hair Pack

Amla contains vitamin C and antioxidant properties both of which help preserve the melanin in your hair follicles. These slows down the graying process.
For these remedy you need:


  • 1 tbsp Amla Powder
  • 3 tbsp Coconut Oil


  1. Heat the amla powder and coconut oil in a saucepan until the powder starts to char. Set it aside to cool.
  2. Once the oil has cooled, start massaging it into your scalp and work it through the length of your hair.
  3. Leave it in for an hour. Optionally, you can leave it in overnight.
  4. Wash off with a mild sulfate-free shampoo.

1-2 times a week.

8. Chamomile Tea Rinse
Chamomile tea has hair darkening properties, and with regular use, it can mask gray hair over time. All you need to do is

  • 2 cups of Chamomile Tea


  1. Brew 2 cups of chamomile tea then let it cool.
  2. Once the tea has cooled, pour it into a mug and set it aside.
  3. Wash and condition your hair. After you have rinsed the conditioner out, pour the chamomile tea through your hair as a final rinse.
  4. Do not rinse your hair any further.

2-3 times a week, or after every shower.

9. Potato Peel Rinse
The starchy solution helps mask grays by adding pigment. This is one of the easiest solutions for hiding grays. All you need to do is

  • potato Peels from 6 potatoes 
  • 2 cups of Water.


  1. Boil the potato peels until you get a somewhat thick starchy solution.
  2. Let the solution cool then strain out the potato peels and collect the liquid in a mug.
  3. Wash and condition your hair then proceed to pour the potato peel rinse through your hair.
  4. Don’t rinse your hair any further.

1-2 times a week.

10. Onion Juice For Gray Hair
Onion juice has a rich content of the enzyme Catalase which helps reverse graying. Regular application can help darken your hair from the roots.
All you need to do this juice is

  • 1 Onion


  1. Extract the juice from one onion and collect it in a bowl.
  2. Massage the juice into your scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes.
  3. Wash off with a mild sulfate-free shampoo.

Twice a week.
